Recently, Cairns Regional Council announced the implementation of a $300,000 campaign to motivate holiday makers to plan their upcoming holidays in Cairns and Far North Queensland. In addition to the $2.4 million dollars Council gives to Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) for promoting the region throughout all tourism markets each year, the additional $300,000 is for TTNQ to create a campaign in conjunction with flight booking agencies throughout the nation.
Currently, we are not aware of any campaigns by Council to attract international travellers, however this is currently being addressed at a state level. More on that exciting news in another post.
Local Cairns tourism statistics indicate that the leisure market contributes to 64% of Cairns Airport arrivals. It is hoped that through this new Cairns tourism campaign, the region will see a measurable increase in domestic tourism in both high and low seasons.
